AI visibility is not brand strength
Something important happened in brand measurement this week.
We are moving from measuring what people think about brands to measuring what AI thinks about brands.
New tools can now track how ChatGPT, Gemini and other models describe a brand, what attributes they associate with it — and what arguments they make against it.
That is fascinating.
Because AI is no longer just helping people find brands.
It is increasingly describing, comparing and pre-selecting them before the customer ever arrives.
But there is a trap.
AI visibility is not brand strength.
AI recommendation is not preference.
And neither is brand value.
We may be about to build extraordinarily sophisticated systems for measuring the wrong thing.
The real question remains:
Does perception change behaviour — and does that behaviour create economic value?
Perception → Behaviour → Financial outcome
AI changes the speed.
It does not change the test.
